YUCCA VALLEY, CA- On Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 55000 block of Onaga Trail, in the town of Yucca Valley. Arriving deputies found that a family dispute had occurred in which a window at a residence was broken. The suspect, Jeremy Quinones, 20, of Yucca Valley, had left the scene in a white SUV prior to deputies arriving. Quinones was found to be on felony probation due to a prior stolen property conviction.
As deputies conducted their investigation, Quinones returned to the area and, using his vehicle as a weapon, accelerated towards the scene and at one of the sheriff’s deputies. Although the victim deputy attempted to escape the path of Quinones’ car, Quinones swerved and collided with the rear end of a parked sheriff’s vehicle behind which the deputy had partial cover. The force of the collision pushed the sheriff’s vehicle into a second sheriff’s vehicle that was also parked at the scene. The suspect vehicle continued forward and struck the deputy. Both sheriff’s vehicles sustained major damage. A second deputy that was already on scene immediately took Quinones into custody.
The victim deputy sustained minor injuries and was transported to High Desert Medical Center where he was treated and later released. The name of the injured deputy, a 19 year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, is not being released at this time.
Quinones was arrested for attempted murder of a peace officer and violation of his probation. He was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he is being held without bail.
